I would recommend this book to any author who is looking to frame a global disaster. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it. I just read Lucifer's Hammer, and I gotta sayit was horrible. In crude summary, I feel as though the rural setting is idealized and the city/suburbs as sites for chaos in Lucifer's Hammer. Lucifers hammer causing teotwawki. As the Hamner-Brown comet approaches Earth, politicians, criminals, journalists, and scientists deal with the anticipation of its passing and possible impact. The guy from Lucifer's Hammer looks like Emilio Estevez in a wig. In One Second After; Alas, Babylon; and Lucifer's Hammer; the answer seems to be "a small town". Lucifer's Hammer by Larry Niven My rating: 4 of 5 stars. It's dated but I enjoyed the apocalyptic Lucifer's Hammer. A comet streaks toward Earth at blinding speed. I say this because it is the only explanation I can give for missing reading this novel before.
